Artist Transforms Students Through Storyfaces Presentation

Artist and storyteller Christopher Agostino transforms the face of EJD students during his StoryFaces presentation.

OSWEGO COUNTY – Artist and storyteller Christopher Agostino shared tales of strength and heroism while transforming Emerson J. Dillon students’ faces into the characters of his stories.

The arts-in-education presentation provided students with an opportunity to hear animated tales of world cultures while Agostino simultaneously painted students’ faces to become characters from each story. His performance ranged from new takes on familiar stories such as Aesop’s Fables, to hero tales like Punia and the King of the Sharks.

Agostino provided students with a comprehensive lesson, connecting a variety of ELA, art and social studies topics into a fun-filled experience, said art teacher Beth Pritchard.

“We are always grateful to offer our students an immersive experience that covers such a range of academic subject areas,” Pritchard said. “He talked about how colors and symbols are often used to convey a deeper meaning in art. His stories also incorporated different cultures from around the world, which made that historical connection that we talk about in class. It was amazing to be able to combine so many different lessons and topics into his performances.”
