OSWEGO, NY – On Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Friends of Fort Ontario will host an Arts, Crafts, and Kite Festival on the spacious grounds outside the old fort.
AmeriCorps staffer Ian Mumpton will conduct 18th and 19th century children’s games and wooden musket drills while paranormal investigation groups staff tables and explain their activities.
There will also be food and beverages available for sale.
Grounds admission is free and normal admission fees to the fort will be charged.
The Friends of Fort Ontario are pleased to welcome back the kites and fliers of the New York Kite Enthusiasts (NYKE) including noted kite historian Thom Shanken.
These and other experts from all over the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada will provide advice to novice fliers and fill the sky with colorful kites of all shapes and sizes.
Bring your kite and take part in the public Rokkaku Kite Battle, the Running of the Bols, and the kids’ favorite Candy Drop.
Fort Ontario State Historic Site is located at the north end of East Fourth Street in Oswego.
There is plenty of free parking at or around the fort.
No public vehicle access will be allowed to the overlook parking lot during the festival as a safety measure for kite fliers and children.
