FULTON, NY – Executive Director of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County, Karrie Damm has announced that plans are under way for the agency’s eighth annual Blue Ribbon Ride Against Child Abuse. Scheduled for Sept. 10, rain or shine, the CAC’s Blue Ribbon Ride Against Child Abuse is a 70-mile motorcycle ride that will wind throughout Oswego County.
Members from the CAC, local bike clubs, community volunteers and concerned business owners have come together to plan this year’s ride and ensure that motorcycle enthusiasts have an enjoyable day as they help support the efforts of the CAC’s “Go Blue! for Kids” Campaign which focuses on child abuse awareness and prevention.
“We are working on putting together a fun-filled day bikers won’t want to miss,” said Damm. “Following a scenic ride through Oswego County with a stop at the River House Restaurant in Pulaski, which is across the street from the CAC’s new satellite site, 4822 Salina St. Participants will enjoy a Limp Lizard Bar-B-Que lunch during the post-ride picnic at Wheel-A-Way Motorsports on Route 57 in Fulton. There will also be plenty of raffles and live entertainment.”
Mark Eagan of Wheel-A-Way Motorsports is happy to be hosting this year’s Blue Ribbon Ride. “We have helped sponsor the CAC’s Blue Ribbon Ride since its inception. We wanted to give back to our community and this is a good way to do so. We are involved in other rides such as Bikers for Babies and the Miracle Ride and are happy to be a part of this local ride. Karrie and her staff do a great job. The CAC provides much a needed service to our community and we feel good about being able to support their efforts,” he said. Eagan added that with Wheel-A-Way’s new location there is plenty of space to host the post-ride family picnic. “It makes it easier for the CAC and the riders as the ride will begin here and end here.”
The CAC’s Blue Ribbon Ride begins at 10 a.m. on Sept. 10 and will depart from the Wheel-A-Way location.
Money raised during the event will be used to benefit the CAC as they continue their mission to assist in the investigation, prosecution and treatment of child victims of sexual and physical abuse in Oswego County. “With the demand for our services increasing, we are looking to make this our most successful ‘Blue Ribbon Ride’ against child abuse ever. We anticipate more than 100 riders and are offering businesses and organizations the opportunity to be a part of the event by becoming an official sponsor. Sponsorship levels are available at a number of affordable levels,” added Damm.
The CAC is a non-profit organization that works hand-in-hand with local law enforcement, prosecution, child protective services, medical providers, mental health providers, and victim advocacy professionals in Oswego County to protect and serve child victims of sexual and physical abuse. In 2010 the CAC served more than 240 children and families in Oswego County. In response to those numbers, the CAC opened a satellite office in Pulaski earlier this year. Located at 4822 Salina St., the new location allows the CAC to better serve the northern part of Oswego County.
“We provide advocacy and mental health services to approximately 50 children each week. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to for us to meet the increase demand. Our goal with the Blue Ribbon Ride is to not only raise awareness of child abuse in Oswego County, but to also help us raise some much needed funds to help us to continue to serve our community as a resource for children and families touched by this abuse. We are grateful to the volunteers on our planning committee for their dedication to the children in this county and the many businesses who have become official sponsors of our event, such as CSI, Inc., Wheel-A-Way Motorsports, Nelson Law Firm, Gosch Supply, Pathfinder Bank, OVIA, Fulton Rotary Club, Fulton Savings Bank, ABATE of Oswego County, and Vickery Insurance. Many free services are provided to the victims that come to the CAC and without the support of the community we would not be able to help these children,” added Damm.
Drivers and riders will also be able to register the day of the event.
A $30 donation per driver and a $20 donation per passenger are requested.
Riders who obtain $150 or more in donations will ride and dine for free.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the CAC’s “Go Blue! for Kids” Campaign which focuses on child abuse awareness and prevention.
Day of registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the ride beginning at 10 a.m.
