Canale Insurance of Oswego recently donated $5,000 to the Oswego Public Library Capital Campaign. The family-owned business has been a provider of home, auto, life and business insurance since 2003, when they opened their first office in Oswego.

“This donation is a way of giving back to the community that has given so much to us,” said co-owner David Canale. “This is part of our long-term commitment to the community. If we don’t support our local businesses and institutions we are all doing ourselves a disservice.”

David and his brother and co-owner, Tracy Canale started their own business by taking their life experiences combined with years of industry experience, and bringing a personal touch to the insurance services. Today Canale Insurance has offices in Oswego, Fulton and Stamford, NY.

“I always wanted to own my own business,” said David. “In this industry, there are many possible providers who can compete on cost alone, but being a local provider we make a difference through our service. If you have a problem, it’s our problem. We treat our customers, as we want to be treated, not like just another number.  If we need to meet our customers at their homes after hours, we can accommodate that. It’s what sets you apart. We believe by doing business locally and supporting local organizations we strengthen the community. And, giving the current status of our economy local support of our businesses and organizations has become even more important.”

The Canale brothers believe that quality institutions are essential to growth in a community. “By supporting our local public library we are investing in the future,” stated Tracey Canale.  The library provides essential services and resources to everyone. We are pleased to be involved in the success of this project and be a part of making the library a vibrant component of our community for many years to come.”

According to Library Trustee and Building Committee Chair Larry Mayo, “Part of this renovation and expansion project involved spending significant time completing several program studies. The studies indicated two things. We needed to double the size of our facility and work aggressively on increasing the menu of programming for our patrons. With the local support we have received we have been able to achieve these goals.”

Mercedes Niess, the Oswego Public Library Capital Campaign Chairperson, said the Oswego Public Library Board of Trustees is appreciative of the donations and support it has received from businesses such as Canale Insurance over the life of this historic endeavor.

“We are proud to be one of the local institutions that businesses like Canale Insurance feels are important to the success of the economic health of our community. Business leaders like Tracy and David Canale have helped make this project possible,” said Niess.

A resident of Oswego, David is married to wife Daneen and has two children, Amber and Cameron. Tracy Canale is married to Karen Canale and has three sons, Tony, Brandon and Justin.

The library renovation is a $9.6 million project. A significant part of that funding has been provided through the library’s “Together With Pride” Capital Campaign, which has surpassed $1 million. The balance has been generated through public and grant monies.
