Oswego, NY – The O’Mara Tourist Center on Route 104 West in Oswego recently received a donation of two picnic tables courtesy of the Empire State Carpenters Apprenticeship Training Center.
Under the direction of carpenter George Baldwin, the members designed, built and delivered the picnic tables.
The materials for the project were donated by Raby’s ACE Home Center in Oswego.
The tables will be a welcome addition to the center that greets tourists at the west entrance to the city of Oswego.
Operating under the auspices of the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, the O’Mara Tourist Center is located in a newly refurbished one-room schoolhouse reminiscent of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The chamber works with the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) through the SUNY Oswego Office of Business & Community Relations to make the tourist center available each season.
The center is open seven days a week from May through September.
RSVP volunteers greet visitors, offer literature on various attractions and points of interest and help sustain Oswego County’s $166 million tourism industry.
To help beautify the location, Amy Pelow of the Oswego Garden Club and local Girl Scouts tended to the center’s gardens this spring, while SUNY Oswego maintains the grounds at the center.
“The O’Mara Tourist Center is a wonderful resource,†said Executive Director of the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Beth Hilton. “We are happy to be working with RSVP and SUNY Oswego to make the center available to our visitors and are appreciative of the support we receive to maintain and operate the O’Mara Tourist Center.â€Â
