Catholic Charities’ Summer Groups Serving Area Youth

Fulton, NY – Area youth ages 6 and up have been receiving valuable information regarding pertinent issues that they encounter on a regular basis: anger management, self-esteem, impulse control, bullying, and social skills.

Children’s Mental Health Services Supervisor at Catholic Charities, Gail Cooper said that the first two groups were well attended.

“Our first two groups included discussed anger management and impulse control. Several children and their parents chose to attend, the children enjoyed the interaction with their peers and discovering ways to address these issues when they arise, while the parents and guardians appreciated the opportunity that the groups afforded their children,” she said.

Cooper added that groups addressing other topics will be held later this month as well as in August. Future groups include:

The Bullying Summer Group, for children 8 years and up, will be held in at William J. Farley Community Park, Phoenix from 11 a.m. to noon on July 20 and 27. Instruction will focus on identifying inappropriate statements and actions and the proper way to react to them.

The Social Skills Group, for children 6 years and up, will be held at Mexico Park from 11 a.m. to noon p.m. on Aug. 4 and 11 at the Volney Town Park.
