Catskill Puppet Theater and T-Shirt Workshop Returns for Harborfest 2017

OSWEGO, NY – The 30th annual Oswego Harborfest is proud to have Catskill Puppet Theater workshop and the T-shirt making workshops return for this year’s festival.

These workshops offer a unique opportunity for festival-goers to create and learn through hands-on activities.

The Catskill Puppet Theater, founded by artists John Potocnik and Carol Mandigo, has been entertaining young and old with their magical blend of puppetry and storytelling since 1979.

Its full sets, colorful scenery and large, masterfully crafted puppets transforms even the most basic environment into a wonder-filed fantasy world! Each play blends humor, mystery, drama and magical special effects, and is illustrated with a combination of original and traditional music.

Its performance will be at the Novelis Family Park on July 28 at 2:30 p.m.

At this year’s Harborfest, they will be holding a special puppet building workshop in Breitbeck Park on July 27 from noon to 3 p.m., sponsored by Rudy’s Lakeside Drive-In.

This is an incredible way for festival-goers to capture the magic of the living tradition of the old traveling puppet theater troupes and is not to be missed.

Youngsters are also given the opportunity to prepare their special Oswego Harborfest T-shirts at Breitbeck Park and the Novelis Family Park (West Park), throughout the weekend, sponsored in part by Mireille L. Watts, CPA, PC.

Workshops in Breitbeck Park: July 26 from 3 to 4 p.m., and July 27 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Workshops in Novelis Family Park/West Park: July 28 from 2 to 5 p.m., July 29 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and July 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

T-shirts are $5, but if festival-goers bring their own T-shirts they can participate for free.

Harborfest is one of the few admission-free music festivals in the country.
