CENTRAL SQUARE, NY – Central Square Middle School seventh-graders recently embarked on a journey through history alongside military reenactor Dan Schroth, owner of Roger’s Rangers.

Renowned for his compelling portrayals of military units engaged in both large and small-scall reenactments set against the backdrop of forts and battle scenes, Schroth brought history to life for the middle-schoolers.

Expressing enthusiasm for Schroth’s visit, CSMS Seventh Grade Social Studies teacher Peter Alaimo remarked, “I love having Dan Schroth come in because it lets kids experience parts of what we are learning from a different angle.” Alaimo emphasized Schroth’s unique ability to transcend the ordinary by infusing each artifact with a story, revealing layers of history that extend beyond the textbook.

During the captivating session, Schroth delved into various historical periods, offering insight into the daily lives of soldiers. Armed with military weaponry loaded with harmless blanks and guided by meticulous safety precautions, he not only showcased the equipment but also provided a vivid narrative of what it was like for soldiers in different periods. From detailing the contents of a typical soldier’s gear to illustrating the evolution of attire and the nuances of combat experiences, Schroth seamlessly wove together a tapestry of historical knowledge.

The presentation seamlessly aligned with the seventh-grade social studies curriculum, providing students with a tangible connection to the historical concepts they were studying. The interactive session allowed students to pose questions directly to Schroth, a retired former educator of the district, fostering a dynamic and engaging learning environment.

Reflecting on the enriching experience, Alaimo expressed gratitude for the district’s commitment to offering such valuable opportunities to students.

“I am so happy that we as a district are fortunate enough to provide this experience for our kids from a trusted and passionate educator, and I look forward to sharing this experience with them every year,” said Alaimo.

The event not only reinforced classroom learning but also underscored the district’s dedication to delivering immersive educational experiences.
