Chamber Annual Meeting Set Jan. 19

OSWEGO, NY – Oswego, NY – The Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce has announced that the annual meeting for its members will be held on Jan. 19th at noon in the Hewitt Union Ballroom on the SUNY Oswego campus.

The event serves as an opportunity for the chamber to update its membership on the latest accomplishments of the chamber as a whole and provide them with a clear vision of the chamber’s goals for the future.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Cathy Pokines of the Small Business Administration.

Pokines joined the Small Business Administration in June of 1998 as director of marketing and communications.

She is responsible for strategic planning, promotion of SBA’s programs and services, marketing communications, media, outreach, and customer service in the 34-county Syracuse District.

As the supervisory business development specialist for the district office, she also oversees the marketing and implementation of entrepreneurial development, finance, and government contracting programs.

Prior to coming to SBA, she was the director of Oswego County Tourism from 1993-98 marketing Oswego County as a world-renown vacation destination for sport fishing enthusiasts and families.

Pokines has a master’s degree from Alfred University in community services administration and a bachelor’s degree in business from Elmira College.

She has completed continuing education courses at Indiana University and the University of North Carolina.

Originally, from Kenmore, NY, a suburb of Buffalo, she lives in Central Square with her husband, Justin and 13-year-old son, Trevor.

She is an enthusiastic supporter of youth hockey, baseball and football in addition to enjoying swimming, skiing, fishing, hunting and golf with the family.

“We are pleased to have Cathy as our keynote speaker.  Her knowledge of Oswego County and her understanding of small business and the resources they need to succeed will provide our members with an interesting presentation and valuable information,” said executive director of the chamber Beth Hilton.

As part of the annual meeting the chamber will also recognize those businesses and board members who have made outstanding contributions to their community.

The recipients of the chamber’s Kenneth E. Boutwell Award and the Jan Rebeor Award, which recognize unselfish, long-term commitment to the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce and the Oswego and Fulton communities respectively, and the Community Investor awards, honoring individuals or organizations that have demonstrated substantial investment and commitment to the improvement of the greater Oswego-Fulton communities will be announced.
