Child Advocacy Center visits CiTi Early Childhood Classes

Brittany Alton of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County presents to Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation the morning Early Childhood Education class.

OSWEGO COUNTY – Early Childhood Education students learned important statistics and key information when the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County stopped by the classroom.

Brittany Alton and Courtney Harp spoke to Beth Britton’s Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation classes about the importance of diligence, listening and watching for any subtle changes in children and went over some surprising stats while discussing the CAC, its purpose and mandatory reporters.

“We are very appreciative of our friends at the CAC for coming in,” said Britton. “These presentations are very important for students to learn about as they enter the schools for their hands-on work. It helped show how critically important this role in our work is.”

The CAC team told the classes that roughly 10% of children have experienced some form of abuse when they are school aged, and often the victim personally knows the perpetrator.

Students from the Early Childhood Education morning and afternoon classes learned from the CAC team, and then the CiTi students this week began their hands-on work in county schools for job experience.
