OSWEGO, NY – Constellation Energy announced that employees at the company’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station recently completed a food drive to benefit Oswego County residents.
The food drive was in addition to a recent financial sponsorship of the Food Bank of Central New York.
Employees collected boxes of pantry staples such as peanut butter, cereal, tuna fish and other items to assist a local food pantry recover from the summer months when many emergency food programs see a significant increase in need and decrease in donations.
“Constellation Energy values the Food Bank of Central New York, and as such has sponsored events in the past, but this year employees wanted to do more,†said Ken Geary, chair of Nine Mile Point’s Community Council. “Constellation Energy stepped up and doubled its sponsorship dollars for the Food Bank’s annual fundraising event and employees did their part by participating in the food drive.â€ÂÂ
The Food Bank of Central New York, a not-for-profit organization working to eliminate hunger through nutritious food distribution, education and advocacy, will distribute the food collected by Nine Mile Point employees.
The Food Bank of Central New York is the primary source of food for 281 emergency feeding programs throughout Central New York.
The equivalent of more than 7.4 million meals was distributed last year alone.
