Construction, Renovation All Summer Long In Oswego Schools

OSWEGO, NY – When Oswego schools open in September throughout the district there will be many changes in place.

Renovation and construction projects have been in the spotlight ever since the school doors closed in late June.

“We are always concerned about the safety and security of our students and staff,” said Oswego Superintendent of Schools Bill Crist as he viewed numerous projects that have been under way throughout the district this summer.

Just a few short weeks ago this was the view of new reading rooms at the Fitzhugh Park Elementary School and work has progressing on preparing these for the new school year.

The addition to Oswego Middle School is progressing at a rapid pace and the new classrooms will be ready when students arrived on Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Other major projects have also been under way throughout the building with major renovation of the kitchen area and a new safe-secure entry way as well as numerous other projects.

Among the many construction and renovation efforts are ceilings, the updating of the fire alarm and public address system and reconstructing the main office entrance. There is also locker room work under way.

Fitzhugh Park Elementary School has seen a major renovation and reconstruction effort this summer. Nearly every classroom has had new flooring and ceiling tiles installed.

Work has been under way in rearranging the main entrance with a more secure entry way as well as improved handicapped accessibility.

The kitchen is being rebuilt and a new more efficient boiler system is in place.

The public address and fire alarm systems are also being significantly improved.

The main entrance at Minetto Elementary School through the new main office that will provide for a more safe and secure environment is just one portion of major work that is being conducted.

New flooring throughout the school will greet students and staff upon their return. In additional a modern public address system and fire alarm system will be in place.

However, as the school year progresses the new efficient boiler system will be on line.

Paving is well under way in front of the school in the bus drop off zone.

At Charles E. Riley Elementary School the most obvious work has been the completion and renovation of the tennis courts located to the east of the school along Bunner Street. However, a new kitchen is also being installed.

Work has also been continuing at Oswego High School where the former science rooms have been renovated and the new classrooms are ready for students.

Flooring work also remains to be finished in the cafeteria.

The process has continued throughout the summer months, but the majority of the renovation work will be complete when children return to school. missing or outdated ad config
