CENTRAL SQUARE – Following is a letter from Central Square  School District Superintendent Thomas J. Colabufo, inviting parents/guardians to the next College & Career Readiness Committee event scheduled for March 15:

February 17, 2023

Dear Parents/Guardians:

The College & Career Readiness Committee was created during the 2017-2018 school year with a clear focus on establishing essential attributes and competencies that we wanted all Central Square learners to possess, which would give our students the skills to be successful in whatever career pathway they would ultimately select.

The committee, which consisted of over 100 parents/community members, local college and university admissions officers, staff members from across the District, along with local business owners/workers, collaborated throughout the course of that year to come up with the following Attributes/Competencies of a Central Square Learner, which can be seen HERE.

The committee also played a key role in the development of our different career pathways, which included the numerous job shadowing and career internship opportunities that we continue to provide our students with at Paul V. Moore High School.

Our focus on continuing to strengthen our career pathways and opportunities for our students resulted in the new Career Center, located next to our commons area at our high school where we have regular guest speakers and representatives from numerous career paths that come in and speak to our students.

We would like to invite parents/guardians, community members, and any middle and high school students that are interested in participating on the College & Career Readiness Committee to our next meeting on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in our high school cafeteria.

At this meeting we will focus on our career pathways that we currently have in place and any opportunities for participants to share their feedback in how we can continue to strengthen our pathways.

The focus will also be on one of the categories that the College & Career Readiness Committee titled, “Contributing Citizen” that are part of the identified Attributes/Competencies of a Central Square Learner.

The goal of the College & Career Readiness Committee was to provide our students with opportunities to excel after they graduated from Central Square, and that goal aligns with our District’s Mission, which is “To Empower all Students to Excel as Citizens in a Changing World”.

Part of the focus of the meeting will be identifying opportunities that we can provide our students with to gain a better understanding and appreciation for other people that they will be working with no matter what career pathway they select.

Whether our students graduated from Paul V. Moore High School and go on to the military or college/university, or directly into the workforce, being able to respect and work with others is crucial to their success.

Unfortunately, the level of divisiveness within our Country continues to grow and while people can have their differences of opinion, our motto at Central Square has been, “As One We Rise, Together We Soar”, and we want all students to feel welcomed, safe, and valued, and as prepared as possible for whatever career pathway they ultimately choose.

If you are interested in attending the College & Career Readiness Committee meeting on March 15, 2023 at 6:00 p.m., please rsvp to Pearl Horn at [email protected] or call at 315-668-4220, x70221 by March 10, 2023 so we can make sure seating is available.

Sincerely,

Thomas J. Colabufo
