DeFrancis Receives Uplinger Award, Camelio Inducted At November Fulton Lions Meeting

FULTON, NY – David DeFrancis of Aurora of Central NY received the Robert J. Uplinger Award and Alex Camelio was inducted as a member at the November Fulton Lions meeting.

“The Fulton Lions Club has been a partner and supporter of Aurora for many years,” said Melissa Champion, club president. “Their mission aligns with ours by providing services for the blind, visually impaired, deaf and hard of hearing. David DeFrancis, director of outreach/education and hearing/vision services has been working with us for many years providing longstanding service to our community and we are thrilled to present him with this award.”

The award honors outstanding Lions, non-Lions and organizations that perform exemplary service to the club, district or community. Established in 1993, the Uplinger award honors outstanding Lions, non-Lions and organizations that perform exemplary service to the club, district or community, said David Guyer, past president, who nominated DeFrancis for the award. “We are honoring David for possessing the highest examples of Lionistic character, ideals, purpose and service.”

Kate Weidman, Aurora executive director, joined DeFrancis to make a presentation to the club on Aurora. They shared some case histories and explained the mission of the organization which serves seniors 60 years and older with vision and hearing loss in Onondaga, Oswego and Cayuga counties. They also demonstrated some of the equipment they offer that helps their clients. Camelio, the newest Fulton Lion, was sponsored by Lion and Fulton Mayor James Rice and the induction ceremony was conducted by Past President Patrick Devendorf. “We are delighted to have Alex in our club,” Champion said. “He’s jumped right in to serve on our comedy night committee and is contributing his expertise on sound and lighting for the February 2026 event.
