OSWEGO, NY – The city of Oswego Fire Department announces the retirement of Deputy Chief Edward Maxon after 29 years of service.
Deputy Chief Maxon began with the Oswego Fire Department on Sept. 8, 1981, serving as a firefighter/EMT until being promoted to lieutenant on May 4, 1992.
He was promoted to fire captain on May 21, 1997 and to deputy chief on Jan. 10, 2005.
His retirement took effect Jan. 15, 2011.
Deputy Chief Maxon’s grandfather, firefighter Edward A. Maxon, was tragically killed in the line of duty on May 2, 1956, at the Vona Fire in the collapse of a building.
“Deputy Chief Maxon has been a most dedicated member of the Oswego Fire Department family and served as a fine mentor and example for not only new firefighters but other officers of the department,” said Fire Chief Jeffrey M. McCrobie. “I have known Eddie Maxon for many years going back to our childhood days at St Paul’s Academy and while I am happy for him in celebrating his retirement, his leadership and professionalism will definitely be missed here.”
Maxon is the son of the late Edward Maxon and Ellen Maxon of Oswego.
He resides in Scriba with his wife, Heidi.
The couple has two sons, Miles and Kelsey.
