FULTON, NY – Timothy Bush, district governor for Lions International District 20-Y-1, was the featured speaker at the Fulton Lions Club’s Jan. 15 meeting.
Bush congratulated Fulton Lions Len Kellogg and Dr. Brett Tallents for reaching milestones of 30 and 20 years of membership, respectively.
He also shared district initiatives for growing membership by “strengthening the pride,” encouraging new fundraising ideas, and he discussed the support he is receiving from all clubs in his district for his personal projects: Vera House and Upstate Medical University’s Center for Vision Research.
The Fulton Lions Club made a donation to the governor’s Vera House project that evening.
Located in Syracuse, Vera House aims to end domestic abuse and sexual violence, to empower abused women and children, and to promote equality and respect in relationships.
The mission of the Center for Vision Research is to enhance the research and training efforts of the basic and clinical vision scientists in the Central New York area.
Secondary objectives are to facilitate collaborative studies among this community and attract other vision scientists to it.
The center’s research areas focus on ocular tissue diseases, gene therapy and inherited retinal diseases, cell and molecular biology of the retina, and visual processing in the retina and brain.
The governor also recognized treasurer Roberta Boetler and past president Steve Chirello for their efforts in promoting internal club communications, as well as in the local media and in social media.
Fulton’s Lions Club, also known for its Lions Loot Sweepstakes, Lions Mane Event Comedy Night, and annual Duck Derby, provides financial assistance for those in need of eyeglasses, eye exams, and hearing aids to residents in the Greater Fulton area.
