Once again, the Hannibal Dollars for Scholars annual Ducks over the Dam race was a success. The duck sponsored by Carroll Grant of Fair Haven won the race, earning a $1,000 prize for Ms. Grant. She was delighted to learn of her success, especially since she has a daughter currently in college. Carrellyn Grant-Case is attending SUNY ESF and will be the beneficiary of her mother’s good fortune.

Carroll Grant graciously made a donation of two hundred dollars of her winnings back to Dollars for Scholars to assist other students in need.

A total of sixty additional prizes, donated by local businesses, were awarded to race participants.

Hannibal Dollars for Scholars provides scholarships to graduates of Hannibal High School each year. The number of scholarships awarded varies due to the amount of funds raised through events and donations during the previous year. The Duck Derby is the largest fund raiser, providing four scholarships each year. In 2010, large donations from the Hannibal Village Market’s golf tournament, the Hannibal Country Cruizers and the 2009 Duck Derby winner made it possible for thirteen students to receive scholarships.
