
OSWEGO TOWN – The Oswego Town Historical Society will hold a traditional Memorial Day ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 30, at the Oswego Town Rural Cemetery on Cemetery Road.
Historian George DeMass said wreaths will be placed on the graves of Dr. Mary Walker, Elmina Spencer, and James Lee. Dr. Walker and Lee are recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor and Spencer was a nurse who served in the 147th New York Volunteer Regiment during the Civil War.
The group has commissioned sculptor Sharon BuMann to create a lifesized bronze statue of Dr. Walker. Dedication of the statue is scheduled for Oct. 23. Donations may be made to the Oswego Town Historical Society, care of the Town Hall, 2320 County Rte. 7, Oswego, phone 343-2586.
