“Homeless children and families come to OCO from desperate living situations and have no one to turn to,” said OCO Executive Director Diane Cooper-Currier. “While it is essential that we assist them in finding an affordable place to live, little ones need more than a roof over their head; they need a clean bed. Unfortunately, due to the recent and rapid spread of nuisance insects like bed bugs and fleas, thrift stores and second-hand shops rarely have mattresses or bedding in stock.”

The ‘Sleep Tight’ initiative seeks to provide children in need with proper bedding and train OCO staff on what they can do to help eradicate bed bugs.

“I’m happy to announce that Exelon Generation signed on as a Gold Level Sponsor of ‘Giving Thanks.’ We appreciate Exelon’s support and applaud them for choosing to be part of the solutions by supporting our ‘Sleep Tight’ initiative,” Cooper-Currier said.

“Exelon Generation and the employees of Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station are proud to be able to support the important work done by Oswego County Opportunities to serve those in need across Oswego County,” said Pete Orphanos, site vice president- Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station. “This community has been tremendously supportive of our company and of nuclear technology. We are committed to giving back and continuing to be an engaged part of this community.”

OCO’s “Giving Thanks” fundraiser will feature a number of food stations offering an assortment of Thanksgiving inspired delicacies and refreshments from Oswego County’s most popular restaurants.

Wine and beer samples from Eagle Beverage will pair with the foods featured at each station.
