Fairgrieve Elementary Holds First Ever Career Day

Fifth and sixth grade students at Fairgrieve gave thought to their futures at the school’s first ever Career Day.

The event was organized by school home liaison Ariana Suhr and math teacher Kristine Kaufman.

Speakers representing 11 different career fields, from financial advisers to first responders, prepared 40-minute classroom presentations.

The special guests outlined a day in a life in their profession, and answered questions about schooling needed and potential earnings.

Students were allowed to select three sessions, and were paired based on their interests.

Each fifth and sixth grader were given a college fair passport and event T-shirt.

The passports guided the students in asking the presenters questions.

Completed passports were put into a drawing for a chance to win one of 40 donated college T-shirts.

Career Day finished in the cafeteria with a college fair.

Representatives from SUNY Oswego, Oswego County BOCES, Cayuga Community College, Niagara County Community College, Crouse Hospital College of Nursing and Bryant and Stratton were in attendance.

 

 

In conjunction with Career Day, Principal Jean Ciesla’s son Brandon Ciesla spoke with fifth grade students at Fairgrieve about his experience as a jet mechanic with the Air Force. Ciesla is stationed at the Dyess Air Force Base in Texas. Pictured in back are Brandon Ciesla, Braeci Clonch, Jacob Rheaume and Jean Ciesla.
