An educational unit on the human body concluded October 28 for Fairgrieve Elementary first grade students with a community blood drive at the school.
Many first graders appeared in a short blood drive video, which was shown during that day’s Morning Express program, and shared the following facts:
• One donation can help save the lives of up to three people
• About one pint of blood is given during donation
• 15.7 million blood donations are collected in the United States each year
• More than 4,000 blood donations are needed daily
The blood drive was held in the school’s cafeteria, where more facts were displayed.
The classes exceeded their appointment goal of 24, and ended up having 25 appointments scheduled.
First grade teacher Becky Crisafulli said students made invitations to give to parents and friends.
Handmade thank you notes were given out to blood donors.
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile was on hand to help make the event possible.
