Fairgrieve Students Celebrate with Pandas, Picnics and Popsicles

First grade students at Fairgrieve Elementary recently attended a special reading celebration.

School Librarian Barb Senecal honored first grade students for their reading achievements and their participation in the Accelerated Reader program this school year.

Students brought in their favorite plush animal from home to enjoy an outdoor picnic.

Each student received a Teddy Bear Picnic bookmark, and were treated with fruity popsicles after lunch.

The top 11 AR point readers from Fairgrieve’s first grade (those who earned 22.5 points or more) were Logan Patchen, Gianna Tucker, Akeylla Janes, Matthew Clark, Aidan Call, Adelaide McEachen, Kaiden Jardin, Dominique Bentley, Trista Sullivan, Mya Carroll and Gabriella Mitchell.

Each first grade reading level story is worth a possible .5 points.

After finishing a book, students take a quiz on the computer to assess their reading comprehension.

If all of the questions are answered correctly, a student receives the full point value.

Bentley, Sullivan and Carroll not only reached the goal for first grade readers, they also met the goal set for second grade readers (30 points or more).

Mitchell, a first grade student in Becky Crisafulli’s class, met the goal set for third grade readers (35 points) with a total of 37.5 points earned.

The top first graders were given a swim coupon and invited to the library to pick out a book, teddy bear, and an item from the treasure chest.
