Earlier this month, the Fairley Fun Runners of Fairley Elementary School were happy to hear Pennellville resident, Ruth Ripley, share with them her experience of running marathons in every state.
Ripley is the second women in New York State to have run a marathon in every state. Ripley’s visit ties in with a history unit on women of change.

The Fairley Fun Runners are coached by Physical Education Teachers Scott Leonard, Lynn Halliwell and third grade teacher Yvette Gigliotti.
The team is made up of fourth grade students at Fairley Elementary and Gigliotti’s classroom.
Students involved run each Thursday afterschool.
The program is part of the Activation Grant that was received by Fairley Elementary School.
As a grant recipient, proactive steps are being taken to ensure students have the opportunities they need to be healthy and thrive at school.
Fourth grade teachers Carol Cook, Jeanne Kacur, Nancy Miller, Sarah Schumaker and Val Stuart are very supportive of this get moving initiative, and encourage their students to participate in the running program.
