Farm Bureau Names Barclay to its Circle of Friends

The New York Farm Bureau, the state’s largest general farm advocacy organization, has named Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I—Pulaski) to its Circle of Friends. The honor is given to lawmakers who support policies and laws that help further New York agriculture.

“I’m honored to be named to the Circle of Friends. New York’s agriculture industry returned over $3.6 billion to the farm economy in 2005. About 25 percent of the state’s land area, or 7.55 million acres, are used by the 35,600 farms to produce an array of food products. Ever since taking office, I have worked to support agriculture and all it does for our economy and have supported laws that work for the farmers,” said Barclay. “I’m honored to receive this distinction again this year.”

“I believe we need to support farmers and agriculture around the state by passing legislation that is helpful for them to do their jobs and be actively supportive of small businesses in general,” said Barclay. “I know energy costs are a huge concern for businesses and farmers and I hope this legislative session, we can take some of burden off of their backs, as market conditions remain questionable for many commodities.”

Barclay has been named to the Circle of Friends every year he has been in office, since 2002. Circle of Friends members demonstrate that they understand the importance of agriculture in their legislative district and how the industry impacts the economy and the future of New York State.
