FULTON – Final plans are set for the 45th Annual Fulton Memorial Day Salute to be held on Friday May 22 and Saturday, May 23 at the Fulton Community Center. The theme for this year’s event is “Together We Remember – 250 Years of Service & Sacrifice”.
The event begins on Friday night with rides by Ontario Amusements at the Fulton Community Center. The rides will run from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday night and all day on Saturday. There will be unlimited ride wristband specials, $25 on Friday night, and $30 on Saturday.
Friday night also features a watch fire at 7:00 p.m. at Recreation Park. The Fulton VFW will be honorably disposing of damaged and gently used flags at this ceremony.
On Saturday morning, there will be a “Run to Remember” 5k race sponsored by the CNY Community Arts Center in conjunction with Willow Running. The run begins on William Gillard Drive at 8:30 a.m. To register go to willowrunning.com.
The traditional parade begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rev. George Reed, Veteran of the Year, will serve as parade Grand Marshal. There will be several bands marching this year including the Syracuse Fire and Police Band, the Island Band, Syracuse Scottish Pipe Band and several high school bands including G. Ray Bodley, Pembroke, Naples and Central Square.
There will be food vendors at the Fulton Community Center all day on Saturday.
Fulton Community Basketball will host its first ever Memorial Day Showcase youth basketball tournament at the Dream Courts located behind the Fulton War Memorial from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Following the parade, several parade bands will play at the Fulton Community Center. This will be followed by a demonstration by Master Leo’s Tae Kwon Do studio. The public is invited to join in the fun from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. with Mystic Music Karaoke providing interactive entertainment. The Fulton Community Band will take the stage from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Finally, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. this year’s headline act, the NoSmo Kings, will perform high-energy dance music from the 1950’s to today.
The event closes with a fireworks display over Lake Neatahwanta at 9:15 p.m.
The Memorial Day Salute is organized by a volunteer committee in conjunction with the Fulton VFW. Major sponsors include the City of Fulton, Fulton Savings Bank, the Fulton Lions Club, Americu Credit Union, Price Chopper and Walmart.
