OSWEGO, NY – Have you ever considered giving blood and then for some reason backed out?
Maybe you made the appointment but something came up at work and you didn’t make it.
Maybe you made the appointment but just forgot or maybe you have never made an appointment at all.
Whatever your personal situation, whatever your reasons for not having given in the past, now is the time to step up to the plate and get it done.
The American Red Cross New York Penn Region serves 63 counties in two states.
In this region, we serve more than 120 hospital including 13 major trauma centers as well as metro and rural hospitals.
Each blood donation is comprised of three components; red blood cells, plasma and platelets.
Each of these components helps in a different way to save lives.
An automobile accident victim can use up to 40 units of blood, a heart transplant surgery uses 4 – 6 units of red blood cells, the average adult open heart surgery uses 2 – 6 units of red blood cells and 2 – 4 units of plasma and 1 – 10 units of platelets.
These examples show the ongoing need for blood in our region.
While the Red Cross is working tirelessly in the Gulf Region to provide assistance to hurricane victims we at home can do our part to help as well.
On Sept. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., a blood drive will be held at the Oswego Branch office of the American Red Cross, 333 W. First St., in Oswego.
This is the first drive to be held in our new branch office location and we hope to have a tremendous response from the community.
We will be accepting walk-ins on that day if our schedule permits.
