Fitzhugh Students Enjoy Book Store Visit

OSWEGO, NY – It was a celebration of reading for Fitzhugh Park Elementary School third and fourth graders as the recent school year neared an end.

The students helped an Oswego business celebrate a very important date. As part of the FPS Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports celebration 35 third and fourth graders walked to the river’s end bookstore as part of the local business eleventh anniversary.

Owner Bill Reilly and his assistant Banna Rubinow presented students’ with the opportunity to win one of five popular hard cover books and also conducted “book talks” with the students.

Teacher Christine Haessig said, “The book talks really captured the attention of the kids as each and every book was desired and everyone went home with a generously donated gift card for use at the River’s End.”

As part of the fun-filled field trip the students surprised Reilly with a huge anniversary card as well as cupcakes and they youngsters sang “Happy Anniversary, Dear River’s End Books Store.”

The adventure was a celebration for the positive behavior that has been displayed by the Fitzhugh Park students and provided the youngsters with a celebration of reading from a business that continues to show its support of education and literacy for Oswego City School District students.

Haessig noted, “This was a great experience for our students and I feel we are very fortunate to have a wonderful bookstore in the heart of Oswego that provides area residents with books and supports our school children.”
