ForeSIGHT Golf Classic Raises More Than $16,000

BALDWINSVILLE, NY – The 13th Annual ForeSIGHT Golf Classic, held recently at Foxfire at Village Green in Baldwinsville, raised more than $16,000 for Aurora of CNY, Inc.

The event was held to raise awareness of the needs of people with vision and hearing loss.

“We would like to thank the golfers, donors, and volunteers who made this wonderful event possible. We’re grateful to the tournament’s major sponsors, Tom Rosa of Empire Vision Centers and Joe Power of the Outback Steakhouse on Erie Blvd. in Syracuse. Outback’s employees volunteered their time to provide a delicious dinner for the banquet. Special thanks go out to Jim Noble at Foxfire and Jody Pucello of Foxfire’s Pucello’s Restaurant for hosting our event,” said Debra Chaiken, Aurora’s executive director.

For more than 90 years, Aurora has been the only non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to serving people who are blind, visually impaired, deaf and hard of hearing in Central New York.

It is a United Way agency of Cayuga County, Oswego County and Central New York.

In 2008, through Aurora:

90 young people and adults received employment placement and training

59 people received assessment and instruction on how to use adaptive computer technology

390 people received low-vision examinations totaling 560 hours

646 people completed orientation and mobility training and learned skills that would help them manage in their homes and communities

606 people learned skills to manage in their homes, jobs and communities and completed orientation and mobility training to remain safe and independent

more than 873 people received social work services, information and advocacy to help them adjust to their vision or hearing loss.
