OSWEGO – The Oswego DAWN, the SUNY Oswego Department of Political Science, the Political Science Club and the College Democrats are sponsoring a public informational forum on the upcoming referendum on a NYS Constitutional Convention.
The event will be held on September 28 at 6:30 p.m. at SUNY Oswego’s Marano Campus Center, Room 114.
The panel discussion will include three speakers.
Professor Mary McGuire from SUNY Cortland’s Political Science department will present the history of NY Constitutional conventions and how the process works.
Dr. Jamie Dangler, VP for Academics of United University Professions will present the case in opposition to the referendum.
Al Benninghoff from the organization NY Says Yes will present the case in favor of the a Yes vote.
Following the speakers, there will be time for questions from the audience.
Many voters are not yet aware that they will be asked to make a decision on this in November.
Others have only seen Facebook posts from some of the groups actively campaigning on one or the other side of the issue.
This forum, open to all voters, is an attempt to present all sides of the issue to voters and allow them to go to the polls ready to make an informed decision.
Oswego DAWN is an organization of Democratic women organized to keep informed of public issues, especially if of particular interest to women, create an informal, collaborative atmosphere where like-minded women can build relationships and networks and take action to get out the vote and support Democratic candidates, especially women candidates.
This forum is is presented as a public service since a healthy democracy depends on an informed electorate.
