Free Two-Session Memoir Writing Workshop Slated

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Public Library will host a two-session Memoir Writing Workshop on June 1 and 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The workshop will be facilitated by author Susannah Risley, who has taught writing workshops across New York State for 17 years, in libraries, schools, prisons and homeless shelters.

She has worked with war veterans, recent immigrants and academics.

Risley has published fiction in national magazines, held a MacDowell Fellowship and received a National Endowment for the Arts grant to teach seniors in upstate New York.

Her last publication was in the anthology, Women Reinvented, and she has an occasional essay on her local NPR station.

The workshop will begin with a brief discussion about the history and importance of writing memoir and how to make experience come alive on the page through the use of vivid language.

Participants will have a hands-on writing period.

An assignment about writing a memory will be given to do during the week.

Risley’s workshops are supportive, lively and fun.

First-time writers or advanced will feel at home.

The workshop is funded by Poets & Writers, Inc.

This program is free and is open to the public.
