On November 5, 2010, the Friends of History in Fulton will hold its Annual Celebration at which Marian Stanton, the organization’s first president, will be honored with the Elma J Smith Award. There will be food stations, a cash bar, raffles, and entertainment.
The evening’s entertainment will be presented by Mary Jeanne Bialas of Victorian Whispers. Her presentation for the evening will be: Trunks and Travel: A 19th Century Journey in New York State. Traveling in the 1800’s was very different from the way we travel now. The audience will learn about means of transportation, rules and etiquette of the road, proper attire, and the era’s social expectations, just to name a few of the differences. Audience members will have the opportunity to participate in the program. There will be trunks and satchels packed with clothing and accessories of the era. Also included in the evening will be an exhibit of post-Civil War outer traveling garments for men, women, and children. It is sure to be an interesting evening.
The Celebration will be held at the Polish Home, 157 West First Street South, Fulton, NY. The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m.
