OSWEGO, NY – The Friends Of Hospice In Oswego County, (FOHOC), recently donated books for children coping with grief and loss to three local libraries, said Elena Twiss, FOHOC executive director.
“Thes books were donated to the Oswego, Fulton and Pulaski public libraries, and address grief and loss for a range of age groups.,” Twiss said. “There are book options for ages zero to eighteen-plus. One of the books is even for adults to help assist parents in talking to their children about loss.”

This initiative was spearheaded by Michelle Dowd, FOH Board member in collaboration with the rivers end bookstore and has been a community effort, Twiss said. “The libraries were very receptive to hosting these books as they are aware of the need in the community. If you or your child would benefit from one of these books, you can check them out at the Oswego, Fulton and Pulaski public libraries.
“This book initiative came as an extension to our annual Camp Waves of Hope summer camp for children who have lost a loved one. We have been looking for ways to expand our reach and continue to serve the children of Oswego County throughout the year.”

In addition, the FOHOC has begun planning breakout healing circle movie afternoons for children beginning in February, Twiss said. “So far, we have the first one planned for ages 12-18 at Camp Hollis from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on February 8. This will feature a movie, lunch, popcorn and a healing circle with a licensed mental health professional. Anyone who would like to register for this event can call or text 315-216-7580.
