Fulton Jazz Fest Food As Exciting, Colorful, As The Music

FULTON – What are you hungry for?

This year’s Fulton Jazz Festival, Aug. 7-8, offers everything from New Orleans’ deep-fried Cajun mac and cheese balls to Philly cheese steak, to pulled pork, to oven-fresh baked goods, to ice cream, and more, said Bill Hubel, festival co-chair.

Syracuse native and jazz trumpeter Joe Magnarelli, with his wife, Akiko Tsuruga “Queen of the Organ,” headline the festival, which runs 5-11:30 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 4 -11 p.m. Aug. 8.

The event is on the shores of Lake Neahtahwanta, behind the Fulton War Memorial on Route 3 and admission is free.

“In addition to a fabulous entertainment lineup, this year’s festival features a delicious variety of food offerings for every taste,” Hubel said.

Blue Moon Grill will be introducing deep-fried Cajun mac and cheese this year, as well as New Orleans Chicken Jambalaya, Red Beans and Rice, Louisiana Popcorns Shrimp, and Shrimp Gumbo.

Melissa Gardiner, jazz trombonist from Syracuse, will be performing at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, with the E.S.P. jazz group. International Musician magazine featured her as a “rising star of trombone” in its February 2015 issue: “With a combination of creativity, emotion, and technical prowess, Melissa Gardiner…has established herself as a premier jazz trombonist.” The festival features a wide variety of foods and runs from 5-11:30 pm on Friday, Aug. 7 and 4:00-11pm Saturday, Aug. 8.
