FULTON, NY – The Fulton Lions Club is joining with Lions International-USA’s national week of service, Jan. 12-19, to push used eyeglasses collection and how they help people around the world, said David Guyer, Fulton club president.
The club collects used glasses year around at the Fulton Medicine Place, 360 W. 1st. St. S. and at Empire VisionWorks, 115 Rochester St., Fulton.
“Since our club was chartered in 1953, we have collected thousands of used eyeglasses and hearing aids as part of our service mission,” Guyer said. “In 2024, we collected more than 800 pairs of glasses, and for the past 20 years, we’ve also been collecting used cell phones for repurposing.
“These eyeglasses go to both children and adults in developing nations internationally. Ever since Helen Keller inspired Lions International to champion this cause in 1925, we’ve served and advocated for the blind and visually impaired.”
The Fulton Lions Club, known for their April 27 Lions Loot Sweepstakes, annual Duck Derby, and Mane Event Comedy Night, provides financial assistance for those in need of eyeglasses, eye exams and hearing aids to residents in the Greater Fulton area.
