Our Story
Amid the Corona virus lock down, two students at Rochester Institute of Technology found themselves in a position where they could assist teachers during a tough time for educators and students alike. These students constantly found themselves in peer mentor/tutor positions where it became clear that students came from diverse educational backgrounds despite being expected to be on the same level as every other student. They then began to come up with solutions to this problem.
“My partner Dominique and I had dreams of improving students’ education for a very long time. In order to improve students’ education we know we must start with assisting teachers. At the start of COVID, we realized that teachers were hit incredibly hard and we wanted to do anything we could to help. Then came an opportunity through our school, Rochester Institute of Technology, giving us a chance to develop a tool to ease the stress of teachers. Then A ‘n’ D Teacher Tools was born.”

They began research interviews with grade school teachers at the start of the Fall 2020 semester. Through this research, it was found that teachers spend much of their free time planning lessons for their students, and they struggle to communicate with one another during the school day in the few short breaks they receive. While some are able to find balance, others are spending hours of their time outside of school to create the best materials for their students, which comprises their ability to have a work-life balance. On top of this, quality resources can be hard to come by and the prices can be astronomical. Judging by their own experiences just a few short years ago in the New York public school system, it became obvious that regardless of the standards brought on by the state, schools struggle to stay in line with each other. Each school has its own strengths and weaknesses. The founders connected this with the research that was conducted and could see a clear solution.
Imagine a world where teachers no longer had to spend all their money to get content, and no longer did they have to spend their entire nights planning for the next day. Teachers often are left behind a curriculum and told to improvise, adjusting as they go. This new platform will fix all these issues. A ‘n’ D Teacher Tools offers a curriculum sharing space at a low cost, enabling teachers to spend less time building their curriculum and more time focusing on the students’ needs and that needed relaxation at night.
