FULTON – Students at Fulton’s Granby Elementary School recently met with organizers of the 2024 Oswego County Plant-a-Tree program to promote and celebrate the event’s 32nd year. The program offers elementary students live seedlings and instructional resources to promote conservation and forestry in the region.
The Plant-a-Tree program exists in partnership with the Oswego County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County 4-H Program, Constellation, and the Oswego County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs. Overall, the program partners with 19 schools, more than 380 teachers and 6500 students around the county.
This year, the Plant-a-Tree program offered Norway spruce seedlings and planting instructions, instructional resources and coloring and activity books to local area students. The seedlings were distributed to schools like Granby Elementary on April 15 and 16 so that students might take their young trees home to be planted.
“Granby loves the idea of distributing seedlings to all of our students to plant at home,” said Gina Salerno, Granby Elementary principal. “It shows our love for the earth and is our Earth Day gift to our Fulton Community.”
