The musical chronicles the adventures of two archaeologists, who travel throughout history to explore the wonders of ancient civilizations.

Along their way, the two archaeologists meet a talking skeleton named Lucy and together the three witness historic events, such as the mummification process of Ancient Egypt and the teachings of Chinese philosopher Confucius.

Under the direction of music teacher Stephany Collins, students not only acted out scenes but also sang several songs related to the source material.

According to Collins, the most important aspect of the musical is the fact that the students will never forget it.

“We are hoping that when they look back at their years at Granby, it will be memories of the musical that they fondly remember,” said Collins. “The students worked hard and they never complained.”

Collins said the school decided on performing “Dig It! A Musical Tale of Ancient Civilizations” because it closely ties into sixth grade social studies curriculum.

The students were able to select their involvement in the production of the musical, something Collins believes was very important to the musical’s success.

“I believe letting them have their choice in the involvement of the musical let them be creative where they were most confident,” said Collins. “We are all very proud of our sixth graders.”
