Great Lakes Seaway Trail Discovery Center Announces Summer Hours

Sackets Harbor, NY – The Great Lakes Seaway Trail Discovery Center in Sackets Harbor, NY, has announced its summer hours. The three-story, nine room interpretive center at Ray and West Main Streets on the Sackets Harbor village waterfront will be open daily 10 am to 5 pm from July 1 through Labor Day, and thereafter Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Columbus Day.

Special events include the July 15th 10th Anniversary celebration of the Great Lakes Seaway Trail Discovery Center as a travel and tourism attraction. The 10am-5pm event includes free admission, giveaways, gift shop discounts, refreshments, and the opportunity to win prizes.

On Friday, July 30, at 6:30pm decorated soldier, retired U.S. Army Colonel and military historian David Fitz-Enz will present the “Heroes of the War of 1812” in the Discovery Center’s third-floor former ballroom. Fitz-Enz, a 30-year army veteran, earned the Soldier’s Medal for Heroism, the Bronze Star for Valor with four oak leaf clusters, the Air Medal, and three-leaf Legion of Merit honor. The $5 admission fee benefits the educational programming of the Seaway Trail Foundation.

On Saturday, July 31 from 1-3pm, Fitz-Enz will sign copies of his books: “Why a Soldier,” “The Final Invasion,” “Old Ironsides,” and “Redcoats’ Revenge” at the Great Lakes Seaway Trail Discovery Center at Ray and West Main Streets overlooking the Sackets Harbor village waterfront.
