Hair Salons Invited To Help Promote Free Cancer Screenings

OSWEGO, NY – In an effort to raise awareness of the availability of free cancer screenings I would like to extend an invitation to hair salons throughout Oswego County to join us in our fight against cancer by encouraging their customers to help spread the word to their loved ones about the services and screenings available through OCO, Inc’s Cancer Services Program Partnership of Oswego County.

According to the American Cancer Society, in Oswego County 13 individuals are diagnosed with cancer every week and 5 individuals will lose their battle to cancer weekly.

The Cancer Services Program Partnership of Oswego County provides free cancer screenings including clinical breast exams, mammograms, pap/pelvic exams and colorectal cancer screenings to community members who are uninsured and 40 years of age and older.

Throughout the month of October, OCO’s Cancer Services Partnership will provide participating hair salons with aprons and tote bags to promote our program.

Hair salons will also receive program cards to distribute to customers who inquire as well as free giveaways to hand out to all customers for helping us spread the word about this wonderful program!

As an added incentive, we will visit the first 3 hair salons that sign on to the program and provide snacks and refreshments to their customers and staff while we schedule eligible community members for their free cancer screenings.

I encourage all Oswego County hair salons to join us in our fight against cancer and partner with us to improve the quality of life and create stronger, more successful communities.

We do not want any man or woman delaying to complete their annual cancer screenings due to a lack of health insurance coverage.

Working together we can spread the word about this wonderful program and improve the overall wellness of our community.

For more information on OCO’s Cancer Services Program Partnership or to sign on as a participating salon, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,
Carolyn Handville, coordinator
