HANNIBAL, NY – Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Hannibal Central School District has worked to ensure all students receive meals during the closure, with its latest efforts translating into a community produce distribution.
The district, in partnership with the Food Bank of CNY, will host a fresh produce giveaway from 9-11 a.m. June 3 at the Fairley Elementary School bus loop. There is no pre-registration required, and distribution will happen on a first-come, first-served basis.
According to Superintendent Christopher A. Staats, the fresh produce giveaway was spearheaded by HCSD Food Service Director Nancy Younglove, who worked with officials at the Food Bank of CNY to make it happen.
“This is a fantastic partnership and we thank everyone involved who helped bring this opportunity to our residents,” Staats said. “The distribution will follow all social distancing guidelines to ensure the safety of those in vehicles as well as the volunteers who will be handling the boxes of produce.”
HCSD residents are asked to stay inside their vehicle while volunteers bring the box of fruits and vegetable to the vehicle’s trunk or on the sidewalk.
