HANNIBAL, NY – Trinity Engle, coordinator of Oswego County Opportunities’ Senior Nutrition Services, announced that the program’s Hannibal Senior Dining and Activity Center has temporarily relocated to the Hannibal Town Hall, 824 County Route 34.
According to Engle, the Hannibal Senior Dining and activity Center will be at the Town Hall for a few months while renovations are taking place at its former site, the Hannibal Community Room.
“We appreciate the assistance we have received from the town and are happy to be have access to the Hannibal Town Hall so that we may continue to serve our seniors,” said Engle.
OCO’s Senior Dining and Activity Center in Hannibal is one of eight that the program offers throughout Oswego County.
A popular destination for both the seniors who attend and the many area volunteers who come out to spend time with the seniors and lend a hand, the Hannibal Senior Dining and Activity Center serves approximately 70 seniors a week and is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
A bus is available on Mondays to pick up people at their homes and bring them to the center.
Center manager Rosemary Kellogg credits the success to the welcoming atmosphere that the center offers its visitors.
“There is a sense of community at our site. The seniors who attend recognize that our friendly volunteers genuinely care for their well-being. They feel welcome and visit us on a regular basis and I am happy that our seniors feel comfortable here,” said Kellogg.
In addition to offering meals to seniors, Kellogg and her volunteer staff attend to the welfare of homebound clients through telephone calls and arranging for friendly home visits and create and implement a schedule of events that includes bunco, bingo, card games, arts and crafts days, guest speakers, themed parties, and health and wellness activities.
The center also hosts special events for seniors to participate in throughout the year.
