Harborfest Family Stage Features Children’s Musical ‘Tom Sawyer’

OSWEGO, NY – Harborfest organizers have announced that the popular children’s musical will once again be part of the Harborfest celebration.

This year’s children’s musical is based on the American classic, ‘Tom Sawyer’ by Mark Twain.

The musical, presented by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, includes lively songs and dances, with much of the dialog taken directly from the novel.

The musical adaptation of ‘Tom Sawyer’ stars more than 35 children and follows the adventures of Tom, Huck and Becky as they navigate the trials of growing up in a rural America at the end of the nineteenth century.

“Tom Sawyer”, which stars more than 25 children, follows the adventures of Tom, Huck and Becky as they navigate the trials of growing up in rural America at the end of the 19th century.

The story is narrated by Samuel Clemens and his alter ego, Mark Twain, played by Emily Hurlbutt and Hannah Martin.

The role of Tom Sawyer is played by Matthew Spaulding with Ben Chatterton portraying Huck, Rebecca Chatterton as Aunt Polly, Alivia Grimshaw and Austin Clark as Mary and Sidney, and Samantha Davis playing the part of Becky Thatcher.

The cast also includes: Alecia Ascenzi, Alyssa Bornheimer, Tatyana Cummins, Claudia Engle, Mark Forger, Cameron Grower, Justin Grower, Taylor Hamer, Spenser Kenney, Leah Mullen, Emily Oldenburg, Sierra Palmer, Alexis Phillips, Bryce Phillips, Isabella Sabatini, Regan Siver, Samuel Spaulding, Julia Tepfenhart and Brandon Tice.

The play is under the direction of Rocky Farden and Bobbie Palange.

The accompanist is Susan Maxwell and set design by Janet Heath. The entertaining performance features an array of colorful costumes and scenery and plenty of singing and dancing.

The directors commented, one of the great things about doing this show has been the support of the Harborfest Children’s Committee, the parents and our community. Directing the musical is a labor of love. The kids are just wonderfully talented!

There will be five performances of children’s musical during Harborfest weekend: noon, 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. on July 24 and 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on July 25.

All five performances will take place on the Children’s Stage located at the Novelis Family Park at Fort Ontario.
