HIT MASH Camp Spend Day at Oswego Hospital’s IS&T Department

OSWEGO, NY – Area high school students had the opportunity to learn more about the emerging field of health information technology at Oswego Hospital during a recent HIT MASH Camp.

The program, hosted at SUNY Oswego, included a day spent at Oswego Hospital where the students were introduced to health information technology (HIT) careers within the health system.

The students learned about the field’s education requirements and were also provided a high-level overview of the technology tools and applications used in a healthcare environment.

The student’s day included a tour of the information system data center and taking part in hands-on activities in the biomedical department.

The visit ended with an open forum hosted by the hospital’s Information System and Telecommunications (IS&T) team, where the students could ask staff members questions related to their roles in healthcare.

The HIT MASH Camp, held July 28 through August 1, was a jointly sponsored by SUNY Oswego, the Rural Health Network, and the Central New York Area Health Education Center.

Similar to the original MASH camp, the vision of HIT is to introduce incoming high school juniors and seniors to healthcare information technology careers.
