FULTON – CNY Arts Center announces auditions for the premiere of The Hobbit, written by JRR Tolkein and dramatized by Patricia Gray.
Auditions will be held June 9 from 5-9 p.m. and June 10 from 1-5 p.m.
The production will include a mixed cast of children from age 10 to adults and feature the use of a variety of special effects, prosthetics, and stage combat.
For auditions, actors should prepare a one minute monologue.
Actors will also be asked to read from the script.
The adaptation, officially authorized by Professor Tolkein, will premiere November 10 at the Arts Center located at 11 River Glen Drive on the Cayuga College Fulton Campus.
Auditions are being held early to allow time for building prosthetics, creating the expansive costumes required, and teaching stage combat and more during the summer months.
The production is expected to deliver learning opportunities for acting skills not commonly experienced with community theatre productions.
This will be the Central New York debut of the popular novel as well as director Chad Lewis who brings an extensive professional theatre background from the Atlanta Theatre community and other locations around the country.
He is the new Minister at the Oswego Church of Christ and director of the Fine Arts Program at Oswego Community Christian School.
He also served as stage manager and set designer for the recent production of Godspell at the Arts Center.
