“Go West, young man and grow with the country” wrote Horace Greeley in 1865 in the “New York Tribune.” He was encouraging Americans to take advantage of the Homestead Act whereby, in exchange for a small filing fee, settlers were given 160 acres of public land. People were already moving west. It was part of what some thought was America’s Manifest Destiny, the belief that the U.S. should reach from ocean to ocean.

Fulton, Aldi Set Tentative Date to Close on Site Purchase

Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. recently revealed the tentative date to close on the sale contract between the city of Fulton and international supermarket chain, Aldi. Aldi has adamantly expressed interest in purchasing the 2.2 acre corner lot of the former Nestle site bordering South Fourth and Fay streets. Despite a long running demolition process of the 24 acre site plagued with several interruptions, an anticipated close on the purchase is tentatively scheduled for July 5.

Summer Racing Heats Up In Oswego

After a three-week hiatus, Oswego Speedway will return to action this Saturday, July 1, with its annual Independence Weekend Grand Prix special presented by D-Bus and Holiday Inn Express and Suites of Oswego. The action packed program will feature preliminary action for the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS plus a total of 115 laps of feature action between the two divisions, with the Supermodifieds running a 75-lap main event and the Small Block Supers going 35 laps in distance.
