Oswego County BOCES students at the Fourth Street School in Fulton and enrolled in the Stepping Stones Day Program recently participated in a “Hoops For Heart” American Heart Association fundraising challenge.
In preparation for the event, students learned about heart disease, preventative activities and about community service.
Students solicited sponsorships from BOCES employees through a letter writing campaign requesting support for the school’s participation in a 60-minute basketball challenge.
Adaptive physical education teacher Kelly Schulz organized several activities during the challenge, including a basketball game and other shooting and dribbling games like Around the World, Knock Out and Horse.
After game play, students were treated to fruit and vegetable snacks and water.
To recognize the students for their commitment to the “Hoops For Heart” fundraising initiative, teachers and staff members performed unique challenges from the students at the event.
Exceptional education supervisor Chuck Pehta took a pie in the face from two students.
Student’s efforts generated $582 for the American Heart Association.
