OSWEGO, NY – On Thursday, Jean Bonhotal, told the Oswego Sunrise Rotary club about large-scale composting.
Each and every person in this country produces four pounds of waste every day.
Bonhotal has worked with Cornell Waste Management Institute for the past 25 years.
She helps develop solutions to the problems of waste disposal.
Organic matter must be disposed of safely and composting is one method.
She develops methods of disposing of large quantities of waste.
She is working on disposing of the result of onion farming.
Grain mash from beer production has been turned into animal food and fertilizer.
She has found methods to safely deal with road kill.
Part of her job is to write grants to pay for her work and that of her staff.
She travels all over the world working on the waste problems.
Her next trip is to Brazil.
