KPS Students Rally Around Local Service Man

OSWEGO, NY – A year ago, one group of first graders at the Kingsford Park Elementary School were visited by Brandon Lively and a partnership commenced.

Sergeant Brandon Lively returned from Iraq and visited the students who have been sending him and his fellow members of the U.S. Army letters and post cards. In front are McKinley Thompson, McKayla McMahon, Nelson DeGregorio, Derek Morgia, Alex Caroccio, Jonathan Mills and Dan Doviak. In the second row are Joan Carroll, Brianna Hoefer, Alexis Geers, Sgt. Lively, Alison Geers, Jillian Bartlett, Drake Morgia and Nolan Busch. And, in back are Presley Slimmer, Kerrie McElroy and Private Darren Glass.

The students in Mrs. Kerrie McElroy’s class adopted the United States Army sergeant as he was bound for duty in Iraq, with Alpha Company, First Platoon, Second Squadron, and Triple Deuce Infantry out of Fort Drum’s 10th Mountain Division.

Once a month, the students sent letters, cards and pictures to the troops who were with Sgt. Lively.

Well, a year has passed and recently the sergeant was jointed by Private Darren Glass as they visited with the students who are now second graders.

Every KPS second grade gathered in the library to view a slide presentation about what life was like for U.S. soldiers stationed in Iraq.

They asked numerous questions and took in quite a bit of information during the visit.

Lively told the students that their letters and cards were appreciated and enjoyed by the soldiers as they were able to receive a touch of home while stationed overseas. missing or outdated ad config
