Lioness Club of Central Square Announces the 34th Annual Apple Festival at Brewerton Speedway

CENTRAL SQUARE, NY – The Lioness Club of Central Square announces the 34th Annual Apple Festival to be held at the Brewerton Speedway in Central Square.

apple festivalOpening night features rides and some food only on Sept.22 from 5 – 9 p.m. with one price ride bracelets available, and a $5 off coupon available at Central Square School District schools, local businesses and on Facebook.

The full festival is on Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Brewerton Speedway entrance will remain closed this year and there is no parking allowed on Route 11.

All vehicles and pedestrians are asked to proceed to the CNY Raceway Park entrance at 154 US Route 11, just north of the Brewerton bridge.

Admission is just $5 per car, truck, motorcycle, bus load or pedestrian group, so bring your friends and come join the fun.

Parking is free and golf cart shuttles are proudly sponsored by our locally owned Taco Bell and our volunteer drivers.

Parking shuttle trams from the parking area will also be provided.

This family oriented event has attracted 25,000 people in recent years.

This year’s festivities include approximately 275 crafters, vendors, non-profit organizations, demonstrations and entertainment choices, pony rides, a wide variety of apples and apple products, along with lots of new and unique food choices and demonstrations, plus carnival midway rides.

The festivities will kick off on Saturday with a performance of the National Anthem, followed by a concert, presented by Miss Emalee Herrington, a very talented local young lady.

Emalee will have CDs available for purchase, and donates her proceeds to local food pantries, animal shelters and other worthy causes.

Among the other exciting events for this year is the 4th Annual Miss Apple Festival competition, which is a preliminary event to the 2018 Miss New York State pageant in Buffalo.

We will be crowning two official titles on Saturday between 10 a.m. and noon at the Lyons Dentistry stage.

Other scheduled contests include the apple pie baking contest and the scarecrow contest. Scarecrow contest entry is free, and individual, family and group entries are encouraged. Details of all contests and events are on our Facebook page and website.

Food choices will include some new items and many of your old favorites.

Among the new items are grilled shrimp teriyaki, fried rice, lo mein and egg rolls, available at the Kitchen House by Chef Station booth.

Baby D’s features a chicken apple sandwich while the Central Square Masonic Temple will have BBQ chicken, salt potatoes, ribs and corn on the cob. Red Storm will have a wide array of items including their specialty Taco in a Bag, breakfast sandwiches, grilled cheese or grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, chili, nachos and more.

Chicken tenders and a variety of festival foods will be available from Barlow Concessions, fried veggies and an array of fries will be at The Spud Shack, Chicken and Steak wraps are the specialty of Hungry Hattie’s, fresh seafood is available from Jules’ Seafood Shack and Pizza Hut will be serving hot slices.

TJS will return with its mouth watering Philly cheese steak.

Don’t miss out on the traditional “festival” foods that will be on the midway and main crafter field, including a variety of homemade goodies including cheese filled pepperoni, maple products, baklava, fruit breads, cupcakes, cookies and bread, freshly roasted nuts, fried dough and kettle corn, fudges, peanut brittle, toffee and more.

Apple Cider and a wide variety of apples will be available from Simpelaar Fruit Farms in Mexico.

Fresh apple pies will be available from the Brewerton United Methodist Church.

Apple Crisp trays are a deal at just $5 from the West Monroe United Methodist Church and Teen Challenge will serve single servings of Apple Crisp.

Don’t miss trying the Official NYS apple muffin from the Cicero United Methodist Church, but remember to save room for everyone’s favorite, the Apple fritters from the Central Square Lions Club.

They will have two fryers running, so the fritters are always hot and fresh from the vat.

A midway full of amusement rides and games is provided by Playland Amusements.

Friday only we will have unlimited ride wristbands available from 5 – 9 p.m. $5 off coupons will be available on our Facebook page and at local schools and businesses, bringing the price down to $15.

We will also have limited food options on Friday night, and the full festival will be open on Saturday and Sunday.

The Lyons Dentistry Stage is packed with fun entertainment.

Jammin’ Beats DJ will be on the stage on Saturday and Sunday to emcee the wide variety of festivities, including Magical John, dance and martial arts demonstrations, Curls the Clown with animal balloons, the Miss Apple Festival contest, Dance Craze by Shannon, the McCarthy Family Singers, the Mexico Brass Band, Central Square Gymnastics, Apple Pie Baking and Scarecrow making contests.

The Central Square Redhawk Regiment Marching Band will perform on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. near the food court and the Mexico Brass Band will perform on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Guest appearances are scheduled for Ronald McDonald, Snow White, Cinderella and other princess guests.

Live entertainment is at the Reymore Chevrolet Stage and features “Ryan Hendry Band” on Saturday from 1 – 6 p.m. and “Tom Gilbo as Elvis” on Sunday from noon – 5 p.m.

The event sponsor is the Lioness Club of Central Square, a service organization staffed by local volunteers.

The Lioness have many local charitable activities that benefit a wide array of people and organizations, including the sight and hearing impaired, local food pantries, libraries, families in need and the emergency community serving the North Shore of Oneida Lake and Southern Oswego and Northern Onondaga counties.

All of the money earned by the Lioness from this event is donated back into our local communities, and non-profit participants utilize their profits to enhance their own organizational missions.
