“The new video highlights our desire to strengthen and empower our community to build literacy and maximize mental and social skills,” Spaulding said. “We have several programs in place with great educators and volunteers with knowledge in basic, workforce, computer, health, and financial literacy. This is a great way to educate the public on the problems in their own community. In Oswego County alone, almost 17,000 adults are not able to read above a fifth grade level, and studies have shown that a high illiteracy rate can lead to a higher unemployment rate and other consequences.”

Marybeth Longo, a visiting assistant professor at SUNY Oswego in the Department of Communication Studies, worked with her video production students to help create the video.

“On behalf of the Literacy Coalition of Oswego County, I would like to thank Marybeth and her students for a job well done in the production of our recent video. This video project has long been a goal of our marketing committee, chaired by Steve Chirello, and with the help of Marybeth and her team, we were finally able to bring it to reality,” Spaulding said.
